Biography

Emeritus Professor Amara Pongsapich is former head of National Human Rights Commission of Thailand, former Dean of Faculty of Political Science Chulalongkorn University, former director of Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, Chulalongkorn University, former director of Chulalongkorn University Social Research Institute, former subcommittee chairman in qualification examine of nominees of group representatives and name list of National People's Assembly of Thailand, Law Reform Commission of Thailand, National Health Commission, Research Support Monitoring and Evaluation Committee of The Thailand Research Fund and member of academic affair and academic position evaluation committee in various university.

Emeritus Professor Amara Pongsapich is a Thai scholar who have many academic works in Thailand and abroad in political science, sociology and anthropology (1967) and studied her master’s degree (1969) and doctor’s (1974) in Anthropology from University of Washington, Seattle. After graduated, she became a lecturer in Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, also former director of Chulalongkorn University Social Research Institute (in 1986-1992 and 1997-2002) and retired when she was the dean of Faculty of Political Science. Her academic position is professor C-11 and she teaches and takes a position of director of Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, Chulalongkorn University until now.
